Photoshop Friday – Red Alert Dog

Last Friday, my husband indulged me in a sunset drive along the dog photo trail.  We had beautiful weather so I was hoping to find some of my favorite dogs outside.  I have a horrible sense of direction which means I often can’t find what I’m looking for, but also means that I frequently stumble upon the unexpected.   I stumbled upon today’s dog while looking for another dog who I was “sure” lived near where I found this dog (turns out, the dog I was searching for lived about 5 miles away in the opposite direction – oopsy!).  If being lost means that I find more dogs, I am all for getting lost!

I am calling this dog Red Alert Dog.  He is reddish in color, and boy, did he sound the alarms when we stopped to photograph him!  He lives on a dusty country side road in a rural area.  Out here, you need a good dog to warn you of strangers who come calling, and Red Alert Dog was doing a good job of that.  Observing him made me think of the varied roles dogs play in our lives, which inspired the words included in today’s piece of photo-art.  It was clear to me that Red Alert Dog is filling all of these roles for his family.  And I’m excited to have him on my dog photo trail (now if I can just find him again!).

Photoshop Friday – We never really own a dog

Today’s piece of photo art features my sweet senior boy Webster and a favorite quote from Gene Hill.  If you follow me on Facebook you may have already seen this photo there.  To create this piece, I extracted the image of Webster from a photo and pasted it into a new background, then used other effects to blend it and create the decorative border.  I am excited about this piece because Webster is so difficult to photograph – he is camera shy and quite uncooperative – yet he is such a handsome subject if I can manage to capture him.  This is in sharp contrast to my dog Daisy who loves the spotlight and indulges me by hamming it up for my camera.  As a result, I have many more photos of Daisy than Webster.

Unleashed

This piece of digital art was inspired by my dog Daisy.  Daisy has an adventurous spirit that is responsible for two of the best cardio workouts I’ve ever had in my life.  Luckily, at the time, I was a very strong runner; and while I didn’t have the speed to keep up with her, I had the endurance to keep after her.

She escaped from our back yard in New Mexico after  wind and flooding from a freak storm blew our gate open.  The more frightening escape occurred while we were vacationing in Colorado.  I was walking the dogs when Daisy spotted a squirrel and got away from me.  These were both painful reminders of the importance of vigilance with dogs, especially dogs with high prey drives that enjoy their freedom!

When Daisy gave chase in Colorado, she still had her leash on, dangling from her neck and bouncing on the ground beneath her while Webster and I followed from behind.

We can laugh about these things now and this piece is a nod to my girl Daisy and all of the other escape artists out there who give their owners a good chase.  May God watch over you during your “adventures” and bring you home safely.

If you like my digital art, you can find more of it on my other blog, Doggone Artsy, where I feature my playful digital art and photography.  There you’ll find a variety of subjects – from flowers to old cars and of course, dogs.
